THE FAIRIES

Up the airy mountain, Down the rushy glen, We daren’t go a-hunting For fear of little men; Wee folk, good folk, Trooping all together; Green jacket, red cap, And white owl’s feather!
Down along the rocky shore Some make their home, They live on crispy pancakes Of yellow tide-foam; Some in the reeds Of the black mountain-lake, With frogs for their watchdogs, All night awake.
High on the hill-top The old King sits; He is now so old and grey He’s nigh lost his wits. With a bridge of white mist Columbkill he crosses, On his stately journeys From Slieveleague to Rosses; Or going up with the music On cold starry nights, To sup with the Queen Of the gay Northern Lights.
They stole little Bridget For seven years long; When she came down again Her friends were all gone. They took her lightly back, Between the night and morrow, They thought that she was fast asleep, But she was dead with sorrow. They have kept her ever since Deep within the lake, On a bed of fig-leaves, Watching till she wake.
By the craggy hillside, Through the mosses bare, They have planted thorn trees For my pleasure, here and there. Is any man so daring As dig them up in spite, He shall find their sharpest thorns In his bed at night.
Up the airy mountain, Down the rushy glen, We daren’t go a-hunting For fear of little men; Wee folk, good folk, Trooping all together; Green jacket, red cap, And white owl’s feather!

Top of the mornin' to ya and a very Happy St. Paddy's Day eve! Today's Irish verse is from William Allingham. I loved his poem on the feisty weans--it felt magical, whimsical, and everything in between. Best of all, it made me smile, something we can't get enough of these days.
Today's post will be short and sweet--I'm in crunch mode finishing up Blood on the Vines. Wishing you a fabulous day of all things Irish, watch out for those little green men! It's Wednesday, time for #DearDiary:

Ghosts at the manor this week from the writers of Twitter...
Author Lee Strauss, Murder at Bray Manor, 5⭐
Lady Ginger Gold is called back to her late husband's family home, Bray Manor. Her sister-in-law, Felicia is convinced there is a ghost in the house, moving items from room to room to frighten and drive her grandmother to despair.
Ginger's relatives have opened the manor to host group events to bring in some much needed income to keep up the estate. The night of a charity dance starts out well, until one of the guests is found floating in the lake. The local police are stymied. Lady Gold suggests the services of Scotland Yard be brought in and has them call Detective Inspector Basil Reed. Will the dashing detective and Ginger find the killer before he or she strikes again?
Author Strauss weaves an intriguing tale of romance, jealousy, deceit, and love of family in this Lady Gold mystery. No one is above suspicion, making for a clever whodunnit. I've become a huge fan of this series, highly recommended for cozy mystery readers!
